The Childhood Dream
In her childhood, Zhuo Lin adored Marie Curie, a rare woman scientist who won the Nobel Prize for chemistry. At that time, Zhuo Lin resolved in her heart: I’m gonna be a scientist like Madame Curie.
Every time seeing the scene where scientific researchers, wearing white gowns and goggles, mixed various chemical reagents in the test tubes to produce new substances, she felt a great admiration. So she studied hard at school, hoping that she could become a brilliant scientist. In her spare time, she was often lost in her beautiful dream about the future: One day when I finally become a scientist, how many contributions I will make to mankind! How prominent I will be! Whenever thinking of this, she would smile happily.
Later, Zhuo Lin studied the chemistry in college as she wished. Though busy with chemical experiments every day, she felt quite content for getting closer to her dream. Sometimes, when performing experiments involving toxic chemicals which her teacher wished to keep away from, Zhuo Lin didn’t care about the danger at all but actively performed experiments, for she considered dedication as an essential quality of an excellent scientist.
After graduating from university, Zhuo Lin became a graduate student. She was still busy doing research in laboratory, writing papers, and designing experiments. But there was something different about her: She accepted God’s gospel from her relative and became a new believer in God. In the beginning, Zhuo Lin didn’t take her faith seriously, but with reading more and more God’s word, she had a shift in her thinking unconsciously.
Once, Zhuo Lin read these words of God: “God allows man to manage all things and have lordship over them, but does man do a good job? (No.) How does man do a bad job? Mankind tends toward destruction; mankind is not only unable to preserve the things as God created them, he has actually destroyed them. Mankind has reduced the mountains to rubble, choked the seas with earth, and turned the plains into deserts where none can live. Yet there in the desert man has made industry and built nuclear bases and destruction prevails in all directions. The rivers are no longer rivers, the sea no longer the sea, they are filled to the brim with pollution. When mankind breaks the balance and the rules of nature, their day of disaster and death is not far away and is inevitable. When the disaster comes, you will know how precious God’s creation is and how important all of it is for mankind; mankind is beginning to wake up to this fact. You see, man living in an environment with a fine climate is like being in paradise. People do not realize this blessing, but the moment they lose it all they will see how rare and precious all of it is” (“God Himself, the Unique VII”).
As Zhuo Lin read these words, something which she learned from school popped into her mind: In early times, people farmed land relying on the natural resources. However, with the quick development of science and technology, chemicals have been widely used in all trades and professions in the last one hundred years. For example, the invention of DDT (Chem. formula: CCl3CH(C6H4Cl)2) brought farmers hopes of keeping pests down, and then DDT became popular in agriculture around the world, and its inventor won the Nobel Prize for chemistry because of such great contribution. Unexpectedly, fifty years after DDT was invented, people found that it, though bringing great economic merit, also created a terrible disaster to mankind: On one hand, because of the long-term use of this pesticide, many people, while eating the food produced with the use of it, unknowingly took in those harmful chemicals which remained in their systems and subsequently caused various diseases or even death. On the other hand, the chemicals are of stability and toxicity, which would cause irremediable damage to the natural environment. A survey showed that the chemicals contained in pesticides, such as DDT and hexachlorocyclohexane, are so difficult to decompose that they will remain in the soil and ground water for more than twenty years even if they are out of use. All these hidden dangers may cause an unimaginable disaster. As God’s word reveals: “When mankind breaks the balance and the rules of nature, their day of disaster and death is not far away and is inevitable.”
After Zhuo Lin knew God’s attitude to and assessment of science from His words, she no longer enjoyed the sound of laboratory instruments coming from the labs. One time, her senior schoolmate asked her to perform an experiment together. When she was pouring the waste liquid into the sink after the experiment, she suddenly felt as though time had stopped and the waste liquid would keep running like this.
She thought: There is a disposal system in the laboratory, but as various wasted liquids are poured into the sink every day, what chemical reaction will occur when they mix together? Where will they flow? The wasted liquids are poisonous and difficult to degrade and neutralize, so they will inevitably diffuse to the soil and water, finally harming crops, vegetation, and human beings.
Zhuo Lin had always known that the development of science would cause some negative effects, but she never thought that it would be so serious. Through the warning of God, Zhuo Lin couldn’t help but doubt: Is the scientific research I want to engage in beneficial or harmful to mankind? All things created by God have different functions and have interconnected relationships with each other. We have enjoyed them for several thousand years without suffering any harm. However, in order to make best interests, we mankind constantly develop science which actually causes harm to ourselves. For example, we mix various chemicals to produce new substances, which brings us more negative effects than temporarily good effects, just like fireworks only leave harmful gas after a brief beauty.
Thinking that scientific researchers should know the negative effects of developing science better than anyone, Zhuo Lin began to wonder: Since we mankind have realized the disastrous consequence science may cause, why can’t we stop walking on the wrong way?
Later, Zhuo Lin read another passage of God’s word: “Besides using science to deceive man, using all the various findings and conclusions of science to deceive man, Satan also uses science as a means to carry out wanton destruction and exploitation of the living environment that was bestowed on man by God. It does this under the pretext that if man carries out scientific research, then man’s living environment will get better and better and man’s living standards will continually improve, and furthermore that scientific development is done to cater to man’s daily increasing material needs and continual need to raise their quality of life. If not for these reasons, then it asks what you are doing developing science at all. This is the theoretical basis of Satan’s development of science. … they continually carry out scientific exploration and in-depth research, then ceaselessly they satisfy their own material needs and lusts; what then are the consequences for man? First of all there is no longer any ecological balance and, hand in hand with this, mankind’s bodies have all been tainted and damaged by this kind of environment, and various infectious diseases, plagues, and haze spread everywhere. This is a situation that man now has no control over, is that not right? Now that you understand this, if mankind does not follow God, but always follows Satan this way—using knowledge to continually enrich themselves, using science to ceaselessly explore the future of human life, using this kind of method to continue living—are you able to recognize what the natural end of mankind will be? What will be the natural final result? (Ruination.) It will be ruination: approaching ruination one step at a time. Approaching ruination one step at a time! It now looks as though science is a kind of magic potion or slow-acting poison that Satan has prepared for man, so that when you try to discern things you do so in a foggy haze; no matter how hard you look, you cannot see things clearly, and no matter how hard you try, you cannot figure them out. Satan, however, still uses the name of science to whet your appetite and to lead you by the nose, one foot in front of the other, toward the abyss and toward death” (“God Himself, the Unique VI”).
After reading God’s words, Zhuo Lin suddenly had a realization: I used to think that if I could become a scientist, I would make great contributions to mankind. I’ve never thought that science is a tool used by Satan to corrupt and harm us mankind. Satan misleads us to develop science and produce many kinds of poisonous chemicals which are widely used in production and our daily life. Then the poison infiltrated into every corner of the natural environment, and also into our bodies. Satan’s intention is to harm us and damage the ecological environment through our own hands, and finally lead us to walk on the way of self-destruction. At these thoughts, Zhuo Lin felt more confused about her career plan. Since then, when performing experiments, she no longer felt delighted but felt a heavy burden in heart, not because of fame or gain but because it was a matter of life and death.
One weekend when Zhuo Lin returned home for vacation, she saw some boxes of medicine for gynecological disease on the table, which read “Anti-Hysteromyoma Capsule.” Reading the directions carefully, Zhuo Lin found that this medicine is used to treat seriously-ill patients, which made her feel worried. At that time, her father returned home and told her sadly, “Your mom went to the hospital for an examination. She was diagnosed with uterine fibroid.” Suddenly Zhuo Lin’s mind went blank.
With a heavy heart, Zhuo Lin accompanied her mother to the hospital for treatment. During that time, she began to search for the information about uterine fibroid on the internet and found that many people have tumor nowadays, which are primarily caused by the diet. Because people ceaselessly eat the food which contains pesticide residues, hormones, catalysts, and additives, the toxins in them can’t be eliminated and remain in their bodies, which causes various diseases. Zhuo Lin recalled: Over these years, to support us go to college, my mom had been doing the meat wholesale business to earn money. Every time she couldn’t sell out the meat, she would eat all the leftover. In fact, that meat contains chemical hormones. If people eat it for a long time, it will cause diseases. It was then Zhuo Lin came to know: Instead of saying the poisonous meat harms my mother, it is better to say Satan uses science to harm people, and my mother is just one of those victims. If I become a scientific research worker, won’t I become one of Satan’s accomplices who will cause tragedies just like the one happening in my family?
Zhuo Lin was undergoing a painful internal struggle, so she came before God to find way out. She read these words of God: “If man ends this destruction, won’t the living environment gradually right itself? … the best method would be for mankind to stop this destruction and return things to how they were. Putting an end to all this destruction means to stop the plundering and devastation of the things God has created. This will allow the environment where man lives to gradually improve. Failure to do so will result in further destruction of the environment and it will only become more serious” (“God Himself, the Unique VII”).
From God’s word, she knew that there was only one way for us to return things to how they were. It is stopping the destruction. She also knew that though she couldn’t make all people stop the destruction, at least she could do her own part first. So, she determined to give up her dream of being a scientist and find an ordinary job which could maintain her livelihood and didn’t affect her belief in God. Though she felt rather reluctant to give up her many years of hard work, facing God’s requirement and the guilt in her conscience, she no longer wanted to produce poisonous chemicals which would destroy our beautiful home and harm future generations. She prayed to God repeatedly to give her faith and courage. Finally, she chose to give up her dream and bid farewell to the life of a scientific researcher. At that time, she felt peaceful and assured in heart.
Time has gone by. Thinking back on her experience, Zhuo Lin was overwhelmed with emotion: If it weren’t for God’s salvation, I don’t know how many evil things I would have done. Though I am not a scientist, I am a believer in God. Reading God’s word, living the church life, and praising and worshiping God, I live a happy and full life. What’s more important is that I gain the peace and content in heart when living by God’s word. Thinking that she once regarded science research as a cause which was beneficial to mankind, she knew that she was almost led astray by Satan. After she came to God’s house, through reading His words, she saw through Satan’s base aim of using science to harm and even devour us mankind, much more knew God’s urgent intention to save mankind. She then corrected her wrong pursuit and thought: The cause which is really beneficial to mankind is spreading God’s gospel of salvation and leading people who are living under Satan’s influence and afflicted by it to come before God and live in His light, and helping them gain the truth as life, live out the likeness of a real man, and live in a happy life under God’s leading and blessing.
Almighty God, Christ of the last days, is the returned Lord Jesus. Eastern Lightning, The Church of Almighty God comes into being because of God’s work and has developed under the guidance of Almighty God’s word. God’s work of the last days is to judge and purify people with His words. Only those who listen carefully to God's words can they follow His footprints. The Bible says“He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit said to the churches.” Brothers and sisters, do you hear God’s voice? The Spirit has said to the churches!

Almighty God, Christ of the last days, is the returned Lord Jesus.
